After experiencing the cascade of interventions first hand with the birth of my oldest child, I knew that there had to be a different way to have a baby. The awe-inspiring, natural, unmedicated birth of my second child opened my eyes to the way birth COULD be, and I knew that I wanted to help other expecting mothers find their path to an empowering, positive birth. I am certifying with CAPPA as a Labor Doula, and currently have the pleasure of working with several military families in the low country. As my business continues to grow, I look forward to many more years of witnessing the strength all women have the ability to find during their birth and the miracle of a new life being brought gently into this world.
Packages & Services
Until my certification process is complete, I am offering my Labor Doula support services at a reduced rate. My total fee will be close to $600, but I am currently signing for $300. Prior to signing a contract, I offer
- One free prenatal consultation (30 mins to 1 hour) for me to get to know you. After our meeting, if you decide to include me in your labor support team, I will give you a contract for you and your partner to sign.
Once the contract is complete, you are entitled to- Two prenatal visits (1 hour each) to meet your partner or other support person(s), talk about your goals and expectations for the rest of your pregnancy, discuss your goals and expectations for your labor and birth and to answer any questions you may have.
- One visit with your MD/CNM if you wish to introduce me to your care provider.
- Telephone (8 a.m. to 8 p.m. unless you think you are in labor or need breastfeeding support) and e-mail support from the time you sign your contract until our postpartum visit. Got a question? Give me a call!
- Guidance in creating and constructive feedback on your birth plan, if you choose to write one.
- Continual physical, emotional and informational support during the birth of your child.
- Transition to your post-partum room and settling in (up to 1 hour); during this time, I offer breastfeeding support and assistance if you are choosing to nurse.
- One post-patum visit (1 hour) to discuss your birth experience, return any borrowed materials and for me to get to know your new baby.
To make the last few weeks of your pregnancy and the birth of your baby as positive as possible, I also offer to include
- *Maternity Photography: I do not have formal training or professional grade equipment, but I am always looking for ways to make my clients feel good about their bodies, something that can be especially difficult towards the end of pregnancy. A few beautiful photographs of your pregnant belly will boost your self-esteem and make a wonderful addition to your child's baby book or your family albums.
- Resource Binder: Don't have the time or interest in reading childbirth preparation books? I have assembled a collection of articles, studies and features that cover topics like prenatal nutrition, childbirth, pain relief during labor, spousal support and informed consent (just to name a few). Each binder can be customized with additional information that is important to you and your partner, such as male circumcision or family-centered C-sections.
- *CBE Buddy: If your partner can't make it to Childbirth Education classes with you, I will be happy to accompany you, provided the specific times and dates are arranged in advance. One-time weekend courses are easiest for me to accomodate. I will attend the class(es) with you as your companion, helping you to participate in activities and try out positions for labor and birth.
- Birth Day Photography: Using your camera or mine, I am more than happy to document the labor and birth of your new baby. According to your comfort level, I can take pictures of the tender moments between yourself and your partner or other support people during labor and the first magical moments with your baby after birth.
- Personal Birth Story: Written as a letter to your new baby, the birth story will include a short recap on your pregnancy, a description of your labor and the immediate post-partum period at your birth place. Birth stories are positive affirmations of the hard work you and your partner did to bring your baby into the world, and are a treasured keepsake for your family.
