Sensitivity to formula can show up in several ways. A baby can be particularly gassy or can spit up the formula a lot. The baby can be constipated or have chronic diarrhea with the formula.

The other problem you might see is a rash, either on the face or on the whole body. If you are concerned about formula sensitivity to a milk based formula, try a soy based formula. This lets you know that the baby is sensitive to milk. It doesn’t mean they can’t drink milk when they get older as it is almost always something that passes over time.

You can also try a basic formula like Nutramigen LIPIL, which is a hypoallergenic formula used for premature infants and if allergies are expected. It’s fairly expensive, though, so you may want to try soy first or another formula, Carnation Good Start, which is also hypoallergenic. Generally between the two, you will find a formula the baby tolerates and doesn’t have an allergic reaction or sensitivity to.
