Default Switching from formula to whole milk

My son, Xavier, is almost a year now and I am getting ready to switch him over from formula to whole milk. Does anyone have a good plan for doing this...how long the transition should be? Thanks in advance!

When I did this with my two the first was harder than the first.
I started my son out by replacing a quarter of the formula with milk. I made sure it was still warm when he was getting it like the whole formula. A week later half of the bottle was milk, but still warm, then another week later it was just milk, but still warm. eventually it didnt matter if it were warm or not!
GOOD LUCK!

Chelziee,

That is the exact plan I decided to follow and it is working great. Thank you so much for the input!

Just wanted to throw out there a couple of things about milk bottles -

1. When you switch to a milk bottle you then have to wean you baby/toddler from that bottle as well. My second child did not want to give up his milk bottle for anything. It took a whole year and a traumatic Grandma-stealing-the-bottle-from-his-little-hands incident for him to finally stop. There were tears. Lot of them. Not good.

2. Milk replacing the bottle doesn't really make sense. Nutritionally you baby needs more than just the milk and will probably want a snack around the same time anyway.

I found that switching to a sippy cup filled with milk and accompanied by a snack was better. For #1 and #3 (lol, don't ask why I shook things up with #2) I replaced one day bottle with milk and a snack... then another... and eventually we were just done. I start at about 12 months and really by 13 months both little kiddos had been weaned entirely. I plan to do the same with #4. Hopefully it will go equally well!

I switched slowly like the others suggested with a 1/4 cup at time with my first DD. I have gone straight from the breast to a straw type sippy cup with my third DD. I am loving the new straw cups Playtex has to offer. If your child can't suck the straw at first you can teach him by putting a plastic straw in a glass of milk and holding the tip with your finger. Then put it in his mouth and eventually they learn to suck the milk out. I have also used whole milk with oatmeal to get them used to the taste. Good luck!
