Default 4-month old baby turns her head when I try to feed her cereal

I am starting my four-month old on cereal. However, when I try to feed her she turns her head away and if I do manage to get something into her mouth she usually spits it back out. What am I doing wrong?

Default Re:4-month old baby turns her head when I try to feed her cereal

Four months may be a little young to start rice cereal and she may be intolerant to the texture of the cereal. If you thin out the cereal, it may be better tolerated by the baby. In addition, some parents mix rice cereal with a single fruit like applesauce to make the cereal more palatable for the infant. She may just not like the taste as it is and mixing it with applesauce will make it tastier for her to consume. If you just can’t get her to eat it, wait a couple of months and try again. Most babies don’t need anything more than formula or breast milk until they are six months of age.
