Re:My baby has pimples, what can I do to get rid of them?
Your baby doesn’t have pimples, although they look a lot like them. In fact, your baby has milia, a benign skin condition affecting up to 40 percent of babies. Babies tend to get them before a month of age and they last for two weeks to a month.
They look like white, pearly lesions about 1-2 millimeters in diameter and they are located on the chin, around the nose, on the upper cheeks and on the forehead primarily. Babies can get them on their gums or on the roof of their mouth, in which case, they are called Epstein’s pearls. Doctors recommend that you refrain from popping them or scraping them off as that can be painful and cause scarring.
Scrubbing the baby’s skin vigorously is also not recommended as it can irritate the baby’s skin. Instead, just leave them alone and wash them as you normally would wash the baby’s face. The lesions dry up and flake off all on their own after two to four weeks.
