Default How Long Can I Keep Breastmilk in the Fridge?

I am feeding my baby breastmilk exclusively. However, I am not sure how best to store it. I thought it would be fine in the fridge for a day or so, but my friend thinks it needs to go in the freezer. What’s best?

You’re fine. Fresh breastmilk can be left at room temperature for six to eight hours (the cooler your house, the longer it's okay). So, it's probably going to be just fine even you pump it at work and leave it in your cooler bag until you get home. I don't think I ever left expressed milk out more than four hours, just to be safe.

If you are not going to use that breastmilk within four to six hours, go ahead and put it in the fridge or freezer. It will be good in the refrigerator for up to eight days. Frozen breastmilk will be fine for three to six months. Don't store it in the door as temps there vary due to the door opening and closing.

I usually moved unused milk - if there was any - to the freezer from the fridge after about a day.
