Many of our friends have offered to help out once the baby is born. Any ideas on what would be most helpful to us?

Food, babysitting and housekeeping. It may be awkward to ask for the last one – “Hey! Will you come clean my house?” But those are the three things I needed most.

We had friends bring by frozen meals and pots of soup. Sometimes, the meals came complete with salad and bread and a bottle of wine! It was wonderful – especially in those first few weeks when everyone is getting used to each other and trying to figure out a schedule. Mom and Dad are so exhausted that cooking is the last thing on their minds.

Most friends will be thrilled to babysit your darling little punkin. Take them up on their offers! Use that time to run errands without hauling the infant carrier around in the weather. Use it to get your hair and nails done. Use it to take a nap – and don’t feel guilty about it (they offered…). Use it to do some cleaning or cooking you’ve been wanting to get to.

Bottom line: you’ve got wonderful friends who want to help you. Accept their offers and their true friendship!
