Re:Crying without tears
When babies are newborns, it is rare for them to cry real tears when they cry. Babies cry a lot and real tears are a rare commodity. In some cases, however, the tear ducts can be blocked. It causes watery or mattery eyes that don’t clear up after birth and it usually happens to just one eye. If it doesn’t pass by massaging the tear ducts to open them up, doctors usually give the baby anesthesia and open the tear ducts using a probe. Then the eyes usually clear up but again, it takes several months before babies cry tears when crying. It is completely normal. If you have concerns that your baby may have a blocked tear duct, see your doctor for a further evaluation.
