Re:How often should I cut my baby’s nails?
The nurses in the hospital will often clip the baby’s nails at the hospital because babies are born with longer than average nails. From there, you’ll need to clip them whenever they get long. It could be a month or slightly less than that.
There are two kinds of clippers to use and you may wish to start out making “nail clipping” a two person job because babies have squirmy fingers. The first type of clipper is the kind that clips off the end of the nail that most of us are used to.
The second way to clip the nails is with a nail clipping scissors. This gradually trims off the nail. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. The nail clipping scissors takes longer but you stand less of a chance of clipping the end of your baby’s finger off.
With nail clippers, it is faster but many a parent has come to the emergency room because they clipped the tip of their baby’s nail off. Practice with each type of clipper if you’re not certain, be calm and have someone help you clip the nails.
