I had a third degree tear during the delivery of my baby. How long will it take for the stitches to completely heal up?

You should probably be well-healed at your six-week post-partum visit to the obstetrician. That is one thing that she will be checking on. Be sure to be very open and honest with the doctor about how you feel the stitches have healed. I had a less-than-optimum repair job done after my first child was born (by an on-call doctor) and I lived with it because I didn’t know any better. After my second child was born, my own doctor told me that she thought that she could repair the damage done the first time (irregular scar tissue). She did a MUCH better job and I was very pleased. More than what you asked, I know – but important!
