Re:When will my baby begin to stand?
Babies will stand at different times and boys tend to stand earlier than girls. Babies can begin to pull themselves up to stand by nine months, although it can happen as late as one year. They then begin to cruise around on furniture and will hold onto someone’s hand to stand up.
About a couple of weeks to a month after they need assistance to stand, they can stand on their own without assistance and about another two weeks to a month and a half later, they take their first steps. This is the time when you need to be very careful about your baby proofing.
When you are cooking, don’t put any panhandles near where babies can pull them down on themselves. Any delicate items or plants the baby shouldn’t get into that are about waist height should be moved to a higher location. Any piece of furniture a baby can pull over or push over should be removed until the baby isn’t holding on to things so much. Because the baby can walk at any minute, you should put barriers up on stairwells and any other part of the house you don’t want your baby to get into.
