How much weight your baby gains depends on whether or not it is breastfed and how much it weighed at birth. Big babies tend to gain faster than small babies. Breast fed babies gain about five to seven ounces per week after the first two weeks, in which they generally don’t gain much weight.

This means that a six week old baby will gain around twenty to twenty eight ounces or about a pound and a half after six weeks. Bottle fed babies tend to gain about two to three pounds after six weeks of age. This is because they tend to get more formula (maybe more than they need) when bottle feeding. This is all very variable and some babies can gain four or more pounds or gain only a pound after six weeks of age. It all depends on the baby and on its appetite.
