Re:When should my baby be able to hold her head up?
Babies can barely hold their head up at birth. They have a reflex that allows them to hold their head up or at least move it to the side to keep it from suffocating. After a couple of months, it can hold its head up with some support and after three months it can hold its head up on your shoulder.
By the time it reaches four or five months, its head control is usually pretty good and it can turn its head to sound or to look at something. Every baby is different, however, and your baby may hold their head up earlier or later than these milestones.
Practice with your baby by allowing it to hold its head up on its own by the time it is two months of age. Eventually, the muscles will be strong enough and the nerves will support the muscles so that it can finally hold its head up to look around and eat solid food. If your baby doesn’t hold its head up by five to six months, see your pediatrician for further evaluation.
