Re:Is it safe to let my baby play in the ocean water?
Playing in the ocean is risky business. Waves can be unpredictable and your baby will not have the ability to overcome a rogue wave. Ocean water contains a great many bacteria and swimming in the ocean can cause bacterial infections, especially if there is a break in the skin.
These infections are difficult to treat, particularly in susceptible babies. Babies are also prone to putting things in their mouth like sand, seashells and other ocean debris. Even the drinking of ocean water is risky for babies who can suffer kidney damage by taking in the salty ocean water.
There are also ocean critters like jellyfish and crabs that can get to your baby and cause problems with stings or bites. All in all, ocean water is relatively unsafe for babies unless you are swimming in an ocean water pool as is true on some cruises. You still have to worry about your baby drinking excess ocean water but you do not have to worry about some of the other issues.
