Re:Is it safe for my one month old to go in our swimming pool?
It is relatively safe to bring a baby of that age into a swimming pool, keeping in mind a couple of things. If the pool is cold or cool, you will have to limit your time in the pool and look for signs of hypothermia, such as blue lips or blue hands and feet. The baby may not shiver so you won’t notice that it is getting hypothermic at that age unless you pay attention to blueness of the skin.
If the pool is warm or hot, pay attention to sweating or red skin as a sign the baby is in too hot of a pool. One month old babies shouldn’t be allowed in hot tubs at all as that can be very dangerous to the infant and can overheat the baby too much. A comfortably warm pool is one in which the baby can stay in the longest but you need to pay attention to the possibility of hypothermia anyway.
The baby shouldn’t be dunked in the pool even though it has a reflex that closes off its airway when it is dunked and it shouldn’t be in a pool where the pool has just had its chemicals changed. The baby can become intolerant to the chlorine or bromine, especially in high doses, and can get a skin rash from exposure to these chemicals.
