Default Very Few Wet Diapers for Newborn

My little girl is five weeks old and I have noticed that her diaper is rarely really wet when I change her. Is that normal or should I ask her pediatrician about it?

That is not normal and you should absolutely ask the doctor about it ASAP. Newborns should have between six and eight wet diapers a day and three or four dirty diapers. If you’re not seeing any or many wet diapers, there is an issue. Your doctor might be concerned with insufficient feeding and dehydration.

Another thought I had is whether you’re changing her too often to tell if she’s wet. With the wicking power of today’s diapers, it may take several urinations before you can really tell if a diaper is wet. Try waiting a bit longer to change her and see if you notice any difference.
