Default Is It Okay for Me to Take a Sleeping Pill?

Ever since the baby’s birth I have a hard time falling asleep. This makes me exhausted during the day and I am wondering whether it would be okay to take a sleeping pill to help me drop off. I am using formula only so my doctor said it would be okay to take something to help me sleep. But I worry that I might not hear my baby crying in the night if I take something. What should I do?

Personally, it would make me nervous to take a sleeping pill while my baby was still little. Have you talked to your doctor about your specific fear – is there a particular pill that might be a lower dosage or might have some different formulation that would be the best choice?

If you are going to use a pill to get a few good nights sleep, I would suggest putting your spouse or partner “on duty” for those nights. Make it very clear to him that you will probably be unable to hear the baby’s cries so he will have be listening for them. I find that my husband will sleep through World War 3 unless he knows that he’s the one who has to get up. Somehow, his sleeping subconscious knows.

And if he isn’t the one who will hear the baby regardless, prop that monitor right next to his face – or suggest that he might want to sleep in or nearer the nursery on those nights. You deserve a night or two of sleep. It will go a long way to rejuvenating you!

In my opinion taking sleeping pills at this stage when your baby is totally depends you so i suggest you to manage your day timing and try to make your baby and yourself sleep for a while in morning then i am sure that your nights will be good for you and your baby as well. Good Luck
