Re: How to Tell the Boss You're Pregnant
I would wait until after your first trimester is over (unless you’re experiencing terrible morning sickness that might require explanation). Try to figure out your company’s leave policy so that you know what time off you can expect. Then, come up with a detailed gameplan for when you’re likely to leave work and who will cover for you in your absence. If your company regularly hires temps to fill spots during maternity leave, let your boss know that you have a transition plan which will make the temp’s job very easy and will lessen any impact on your boss. Because your boss may make a good show about her happiness for you, but she’s probably immediately thinking about the impact your pregnancy will have on her.
Anyway, the goal is to take on the task of creating a smooth transition and not making that your boss’s problem. If you show her upfront that you are conscientious and responsible, you’ll probably have fewer issues in the long run.
