Re: Can I Take My Two Week Old Out of the House for Some Fresh Air?
I know Minnesota can be cold but, unless your pediatrician has told you otherwise due to your baby’s health, there’s no medical reason not to take a baby out of the house.
Cold air doesn’t cause colds or illness – it’s exposure to other people and their germs. And that exposure can and does happen inside your house. If you do go out, stay out of crowds, make sure that people wash their hands if they’re holding your baby and stay away from people you know are sick.
You will want to bundle your baby up to fight the cold weather. Don’t forget his extremities – he needs a hat and he needs his hands and feet covered in some way. I especially loved the fleece cover for the infant carrier to keep the cold air off of my babies as we moved from house to car to building. If it’s below freezing outside, you should probably limit your baby’s exposure – no long walks in the stroller until it warms up a bit!
