Re: Okay to Borrow a Stroller?
I believe that the general rule in the industry is that strollers over ten years old cannot be assumed to be safe due to deterioration of plastic and other parts. If the stroller is newer than ten years old, you should still check to see if it has been the subject of a safety recall.
If it has not, take a look at the stroller itself. Are the wheels and brakes in good condition? Are the harnesses working and attached properly? Are there any screws missing or broken parts which could harm your baby?
If the stroller is a complete travel system with carseat, be sure to check the recall info for that as well. Then ask your cousin if the seat has ever been in a car wreck. If it has, do not use it. And I believe that the industry considers carseats “expired” if they are over six years old.
