Re:How do I burp my baby?
How you burp the baby depends on how old the baby is. A newborn can be burped by holding him or her up to the shoulder and rubbing his or her back up and down or patting the baby’s back until it burps. The other way is to “sit” the baby on your lap and hold it by the chest, allowing its head to dangle forward. Then pat the baby’s back or rub the back up and down until the baby burps.
An older baby may not need to be burped at all and will burp by itself. If not, you can hold the baby in a sitting position and pat its back or hold it up to your shoulder and rub or pat the back. Often a little bit of formula comes out during the burping process and so you’ll want to have a burp rag available to catch what is burped up during feeding.
