Default When Can I Take My Baby to the Pool?

With two older children we spend a lot of time at the pool in the summer. I am wondering how long I have to wait until baby (now four weeks old) can go into the pool as well.

My first thought is actually not the water but the sun. Most doctors recommend that babies don’t wear sunscreen before six months. And your infant’s skin most definitely needs protection from the sun.

As far as the water goes, many doctors advise keeping babies younger than two months out of the pool due to their lower immunities. Pools, though chlorinated, can harbor bacteria which can cause diarrhea. After that, be sure that the water is warm enough. Babies can’t efficiently regulate their own body temps until anywhere from six to 12 months of age.

No in my opinion you should take your baby when is almost one year not before it will be not good for your baby's skin.

Your baby's skin is not yet fully developed. Although the pool is not something to worry about because a lot of people also bring their babies there. Just remember to keep you baby in the cool shade once the sun gets to hot.

Usually pediatricians recommend to wait atleast till the baby turns 1 year old. Younger the baby higher are the chances of him/her catching infection in public pools.
