Re:Should I clean my infant’s mouth after she eats?
Yes. Just like you clean your teeth after eating, you should clean the baby’s teeth or gums after feeding. If the baby doesn’t have any teeth, take a clean washcloth or a gauze pad and wrap it around your finger. Gently wipe the gums on the top and bottom. If the baby has teeth, you can use water to wet a baby toothbrush and gently brush the baby’s teeth. This gets rid of any bacteria that can eventually cause plaque and dental caries.
Staying vigilant about your child’s teeth teaches them good tooth care and good habits they can use for a lifetime. Once your baby gets a bit older, he or she can brush his or her own teeth and eventually use toothpaste. Having these good dental habits will keep away dental caries and make your dentist very proud of your child.
