Re:How do I know if my baby is getting enough milk?
It is difficult when you are breastfeeding to know exactly how much milk your baby is getting but there are some clues you can use to determine that he or she is getting enough. Does the baby seem content after feeding? This is one way to know that the baby has filled his or her belly and is happy with the amount it has taken in. Does the baby stay content for at least two to four hours between feedings? If the baby is getting enough, he or she won’t want to feed again until at least two or more hours have past. Finally, is the baby gaining weight?
You can buy a baby scale and weigh the baby periodically or you can just wait until he or she has a doctor’s appointment and have the baby weighed there. If the baby is gaining weight, that is the best sign that the baby is being well fed and is getting enough during feedings. If you are concerned, just buy the scale and weigh the baby before and after feedings. One fluid ounce weighs an ounce on the scale and you can expect a four ounce or more change in the weight of the baby after a feeding.
