Re:How much water should I be drinking while breastfeeding?
Believe it or not, it is possible to drink too much water when you are breastfeeding. The basic rule for breastfeeding is that you should drink enough water to satisfy your thirst. It’s a good idea to have some water handy when you are breast feeding but don’t force yourself to drink if you are not thirsty.
At least one study showed that drinking more than 25 percent of the amount needed to quench your thirst can actually reduce your milk supply. Another study showed that drinking more than 80 ounces of water can adversely affect a woman’s potassium level and can reduce the milk supply. This doesn’t mean you should count every ounce you are drinking so you get enough but not too much.
If you stick to the rule about drinking enough so your thirst is quenched, it will be enough for the baby and your baby will get enough quality breast milk.
