Default I admit it, I can't smell!

It's true, I've never had 5 senses. As a kid I always thought the sense of smell was something that had to be developed and that I was a little slow. I went on without smelling despite my most valiant efforts. I quickly learned that "Wow!" was a good response to most questions asked about candles, perfumes, etc. It wasn't until I was in high school that I confessed this to my parents and a few friends. At first they thought I was kidding but eventually trusted me. It turns out that I have anosmia and I'm not alone, 50,000 Americans have it! Do you know anyone who is anosmic?

I need some advice, besides checking regularly does any mom out there have any ideas of how to know when their child's diaper needs changed? Obviously, when your baby cries but I was hoping for something else. I've heard that some moms can get on a schedule and pretty much predict when it's time for a change. Any ideas?

I have never heard of that!! WOW that is nuts! I can't imagine not being able to smell...

With my son, by the age of about 9 months he was on a pretty regular schedule of pooping at 3pm and STILL does poop at 3pm which makes it easier for potty training because I know to bug him to go potty at that time

I think they make diapers that have color changing panels on the front or back for bys and girls although I think they are pulls ups...

i can smell just fine. I cant however tell by touch if things are hot or cold. I always knew I took hotter showers than most, after burning a boyfriend or two to a light scorch in the shower together. But later when I had babies I realized my sense to touching hot and cold is very different to other peoples. I cannot feel hot very well. Warm to be is heck a hot. You can picture the first few times i tried to bathe a baby at home alone! i was pretty much guessing!

Wow, that must be tough. My friend's mom was like that after she took a certain prescription medicine. She burnt herself a lot, she even had third degree burns a few times.

I found that checking the baby every hour at least, helped with the dirties at first, now my son will come to me if he needs changed.. .most of the time. STill have to work on getting him to realize BEFORE he goes, so we can get the potty training going, lol but most potty training is around 18months from what i've read, and he's almost 17 months now, so we're doing good. Also, i think i do remember seeing the color changing strips on the diapers.... not sure what stage they start at...
I used to work in a nursing home, and they had them for adults that way too, only makes since that they'd make some for baby's too!! Also some diapers will "look" a bit different when ... used(?)...
I know Walmart's "parents choice" diapers do even without a color change strip, they fit him differently, even without being overly saturated... almost as it the diaper is designed NOT to lay against the skin when soiled.

Ideally, I guess, you would want your child to "react" in some kind of way in order to alert that their diaper needs changing. My son, doesn't always let us know - which is kinda common with disposable diapers. If you use cloth diapers, it may help your child potty train faster (and alert you quicker) when they need a diaper changed. That's a tough one. Good luck!
