Re:When Should We Tell Our 20 m.o. that we're having a new baby?
Toddlers that young have no concept of time. Don’t bother to tell her now - she won’t understand anyway. She may say “beebee?!” back to you but she doesn’t get it. When you start showing, you can start patting your belly and telling her that there’s a baby in there. She still won’t get it but the seed will be planted in her mind. Sounds like she’ll be just shy of two and a half when the baby gets here. Maybe in those last few weeks, you can read her some of the big sister books and show her how to care for her baby dolls. Show her the doll when you talk about the baby in your belly.
It’s a big concept for someone that little to get her head around – so be patient during the transition. She may not like the baby and may not like that your attention is divided. Good luck!
