Re:Is Private Room at the Hospital Worth Extra Cost?
I’ve been lucky enough to have given birth in hospitals that only offer private mother/baby rooms. And I will say that I can’t imagine having to share a room post-delivery – even if it is only for a few days. It is nice to tell your friends and family to go when you’re feeling tired and you can’t exactly do that to someone else’s friends and family. And, as someone who sent her newborns to the nursery at night for a few hours in order to get some rest, I would probably get a bit cranky if someone else’s newborn was keeping me awake for those precious hours. I’m not exactly an extrovert either – so the thought of having to make pleasant conversation with a roommate while recovering from delivery would stress me out.
All of that being said, I don’t know the cost difference between private rooms and non-private rooms. So, I can’t make the cost-benefit analysis for you. Obviously, I see a lot of benefits to private rooms so, if you have the means to pay for it, I’d probably lean that way.
If anyone else here has had experience with a non-private room, please share!
