Re:Am I Crazy to Take a 7 Month Old to Europe?!
Wow! You are ambitious and brave! I think, as long as you have the right attitude, it can totally work. She may actually be the perfect age. She’s probably on some sort of schedule – which can help you set your itinerary expectations appropriately and avoid disappointment or frustrations at having to leave somewhere for naptime. But she’s not old enough yet to walk and want to be independently mobile.
You’ll need to take her jet lag adjustment into account before your flight and after – start adjusting her bedtime a little in the weeks leading up to your trip. Then, try to keep her on local time for her sleep schedule when you get to Europe – exposing kids to the outdoors and sunlight can really help with jet lag.
Think about booking an overnight flight so that she is more likely to sleep for a good portion of your airline travel. Arrange for a crib in your hotel room. Pack your sling or front pack for simplest travel. And don’t forget that she’ll need a passport!
