Our six month old baby will go on her first flight soon. Can we use her regular carseat in the plane? Or are the regular seatbelts sufficient to keep her safe?

I think that carseats are the way to go. She is much too small for the regular seatbelt to be of any use on the airplane. Think about how easily she would slip out if there were turbulence and a major bump while you were flying. She is safest either in her own carseat (secured by the seatbelt) or in your arms. My first choice is the carseat. You’ll have to pay for a seat for her. But she’ll be safe in her five point harness and she’ll be in a familiar spot. She knows her carseat and probably won’t think it’s much different than riding in your car.

I flew with my son when he was 3 months. Instead of paying for an extra plane seat, I held him in my BabyBjorn. You can bring the carseat and check it at the gate. Also, bring some cut up lemons with you. When the altitude affects the baby's ears, rub some lemon in their mouth, the puckering will help them pop their ears.
