Default Could use some insight from parents with 'sports kids'

Hi there! I posted this on our blog last night but because maybe three people know it exists, I'm posting the link here.

If your children are in sports I'd love to know your opinions on this and how you handle bad sportsmanship...not by the kids...but by the coaches and spectators.

Little League Losers

Thank you in advance!

Oh, this is a tough one! I see/hear a lot of heckling by parents at the T-Ball games and it's annoying. I just keep my mouth shut but shoot a lot of dirty looks! LOL

I hope someone else has better advice I am doing a radio show with an etiquette coach on Monday--I should ask her how to handle this type of parent!

I am not a woman who has an easy time keeping her mouth shut. I so badly want to give other parents a piece of my mind at times, but I realize the greater priority is to teach our kids to play nice. How are they supposed to learn that when parents are in the stands acting like total heathens?
I've even had to keep my mouth closed whn one dad sat and bad mouthed my kids while my husband coached out on the field. It was so frustrating. However, if we are to lead by example, we have to be willing to swallow our anger and push aside pride for the sake of peace at times.
I did go home and blog about it though!!

Blogging about it was therapeutic. We will go to the ends of the earth to defend our children but situations like that I just sit shaking my head. I don't insulate them from life and I realize that they need to experience this kind of stuff so that they can learn how to handle it and cope with it. But, we have limits and I think it was the guy freaking out while kicking sand all over home plate that did it for me.

Well, we play t-ball and soccer. I just talked to my daughter about being a good sport and what that means. I told her that some kids and their parents aren't very good sports, but we should just be thoughtful. That being said, if someone ever said something ugly or rude about my child I would just walk up and calmly tell them that I don't appreciate what they are saying to to please be more thoughtful since they are children

Oh my...I would take your blog post...just like it is, and mail it to the Little League president. Heck...I would probably mail it to every coach also.
My son is in TBall, and there is one coach that is a bit loud when he speaks to the kids, but I think it is just his voice. Our coach is awesome. He shows them how to play and keeps them in line...politely.
