Default cabin fever?!?!?!

so i was always this crazy active person. i never have stayed in one place for a long time and now having a family and staying home has really been a BIG change. not only physically, but emotionally as well. i took such a hard hit feeling like i had no identity any more. i finally started picking up odd jobs ( ie: babysitting, dog walking...) but i still feel like i am caged up. i love being home with my son, dont get me wrong. i just miss human interaction and changed scenery. anyone else get this??? it makes me feel like a bad mom. i want to be here with him, but then again i dont. is this normal??

god sent my messiah september 30, 2008.

and of course a metatron to keep things straight!!
mom to Brayden and wife to Benjamin.

I was the same way! My saving grace was joining playgroups. You can look up moms groups in your area - mops (mothers of preschoolers) or moms club, even meetup.com. It's a great way to find other moms with kids your sons' age. Just having another person to chat with while the babies play or even to call up and bounce ideas off, makes it seem so much more manageable. Good luck!

I am the same way, too! I get out of the house daily just to walk around the mall or parks and I find someone to chit chat with! Joining mom clubs and playgroups helps a lot! Then you can find the moms you click with and get together Crafting also helped me a lot.

You are off to a great start just by seeking support online. I also agree with the others- playgroups, story time at the library, etc were my saving grace when my boys were younger. My husband joked that "stay at home mom" didn't describe me very well because the boys and I were always on the go.

If you belong to a local church or place of worship you may meet some moms there as well. I also met other moms at the pediatricians office, etc. Consider taking a class or joining a book club one evening a week and getting some adult interaction that way.

Take care of you- it makes for a better (and happier) mom

I think it is totally normal to feel like that. It's hard being a working mom and it's also hard being a stay at home mom. You have to find what works for you and make it work as best you can.

It's completely normal. Is it feasible to take one night a week for your husband to babysit so you can go out and interact with other women? Even if that's not an option, find some sort of playgroup that you guys can look forward to one day a week. The other days get easier if you have something to look forward to.

I think it's totally normal. It's such a change of pace for anyone. We found going to mom/baby groups was a great way to get out, especially mom/baby yoga. I loved it!

I think just finding anything you are interested in is a huge help. I found that I needed something to call my own too. So each day I took a few minutes to myself to do things I enjoyed. I was much happier afterwards.

I know how you feel. These days I make sure at the very least we get outside for awhile, go for a hike, and take some time away from the PC. I've also found a local parenting group that gets together at least weekly. It's nice to get together with the kids all around the same age - we're all going through similar things and have lots to talk about!

That is so normal. I have had the same issue. Getting out of the house often, meeting other moms in your area, and having regular date nights with your partner will help a lot.

Staying active is how I keep my sanity! I love to craft, scrapbook, and sell Mary Kay. Mom's groups & church groups are also great for encouragement and social activity. I crave to be around people, and while I love staying home it helps to get out and talk to adults.
