Default 1st Birthday Ideas??

My daughter is turning 1 in June. I am just wondering if any body out there has any good ideas for her party. Maybe moms who have been through the circus before. Do I invite my friends that don't even have kids?

It is all personal preference really and of course you need to work within your budget.

Well we tried to do a big event for my daughter and it was terrible. Th kids were sleepy and not big enough to understand. She didn't want to open presents, eat, etc. With my son, we just invited immediate family and is was much better. Not much stress and everyone had a great time! Good luck

That would be my answer as well...Keep it simple and low key on yourself and your family. My family used to cook up my favorite meal for my birthdays or my favorite outing (mine was off roading, hehee!) It was very special, but easier than organizing a huge bash.

I had one daughter's 1st birthday last August, and another daughter's first birthday the August before. We had one party at my parents' house and the other at our own. We invited family and friends that we knew would want to celebrate. A little cake and ice cream, and opening gifts will take up a good chunk of time. The main person you want to please is your baby... if baby is happy, you are happy, and if you are happy, everyone else will have a great time!

For our daughter's first birthday, which was in April, we kept it low-key. First, she's clueless as to what the heck is going on and it's not like she has a friends list yet. Second, the party was more for us than her anyhow and we just wanted family so that it wasn't a chaotic scene. I totally agree with Steph...if the baby is happy, you're happy, and that's all that matters.

I am in the same boat! My daughters first birthday is in July and I really wanna have a girly girl birthday ( I have 3 sons and have done all the boy stuff ). But realistically it would be kind of a waste of money so I am just gonna go with family and good friends. I don't want to overwhelm her on her special day.

I always invite family and any friends that have been a part of my babys life. Try to keep it simple and it will be fine. Oh and plan the party around napping if at all possible. My oldest fell asleep during his 1st birthday party...lol. Good luck!

So thank you to all who replied to my question. The party was last week and we all survived. I mostly kept it low key. Just got a few fun balloons and a little banner to distinguish the day apart from others. I had recently discovered she loved jello, then that she liked lemons! So i made her a lemon jello cake to dig into (then of course a regular cake for the rest of us). I have no family near me but I had a few good friends over, it turned out well. Of course my daughter missed a nap; there was so much going on! She did well with the gifts and the cake but as soon as everyone left, she was a mess. Haha. Poor girl was so tired it took her an hour in my arms to calm down and finaly doze off. Thanks again!

mommyjen99: good luck! even though my daughters party was pretty simple i took lots of pictures, that way she can see them when she's older and can appreciate it. i think it's a good idea for little one's parties.

I'm glad you had a fun time! I just wanted to tell the rest of the mom's out there who have little ones about to turn one that if you go to your local grocery store to order a cake many of them will often give you a free cake to celebrate or at least a good discount.
