Default 19 weeks & counting...so where's the belly?

HI all,
I'll have to post a pic later so you can help me judge this. I'm 19+ weeks pregnant and people keep telling me, "you don't even look pregnant," "you don't have a belly yet?" and the complimentary one "you wear it well, lucky." Now I know every body's different and I wasn't a skinny mini when I got pregnant (I'm 5'6" I was 155 in a size 10-12 depending on the brand.) but I can tell I have a belly. I mean my pants don't fit anymore and there's a very firm round thing in the middle of my belly! When people say these things to me it makes me feel like either I've always looked this fat or I just plain lok fat! UGH! So i did some research online and saw a lot of images of women 19 weeks pregnant and yes, they were mostly a lot larger than I am. I'm not concerned about the health of the baby (are check ups have all been great and I'm getting better at the eating) I think I'm just frustrated by all these comments and it makes it difficult to enjoy being pregnant. Any ideas? (for anything, how to repond or why I might not be showing as much?)

Thanks for listening to the rant!
Christi

I'm 24 weeks and I just started to show.
I feel your pain. For a while I was concerned that something was wrong.
But then my doctor told me that I should be happy because the less of a belly means the less weight I have to lose after the baby is born.
Don't let peoples comments bother you. You know your pregnant and in a matter a weeks or days you will pop.

HI All,
Found the Belly! and the weight gain! POOP! I've got this weight tracker on my iphone which pegged me as overweight to begin with(161 - per Dr scale) so I should only gain 15-25 lbs I was on track for about 20 until these last 6 weeks when I've gained a total of 11.5 lbs!!! I know I need to walk more and cut back on the junk but I've been eating, the cravings for chocolate and fast food are back. UGH! Just bought some fresh fruit though hoping to help with the sweet fix.

I'm so excited for you.
I know how you feel about the weight gain. My dr is taking me off juice because I gained an extra pound since my last appointment. I'm on day three without juice so far its alright but water and milk are starting to bore me.
How many weeks are you now?

Thanks Jooly,
I'm 27/28 weeks. one extra pound and took you off juice? Wow sounds like a strict Dr...mine hasn't even mentioned the weight to me yet (i say yet b/c I know he has to other friends). I'm wondering if the nurse has told him that I am already panicked about it. I have had an issue with weight my whole life. Not meaning that I've always been heavy but my family and friends seem to think I have a complex where I don't see what's really there just fat...blah blah blah. But I am getting a bit touchy about how the weight is coming on. But on the plus side: I have fruit that I've been eating (unfortunately I haven't completely cut out the chocolate.) and my friend and I walked our local mall for an hour and 15 minutes with a bathroom pitstop and a wander through the baby depot at Burlington Coat factory. So I'll try to keep that up and see how we go.
Thanks again!

I'm impressed with your exercising. I walk to and from the bus every day its about 20mins and then every second day I walk the dog with my husband. I recently joined a prenatal Yoga class, but its not really exercise more like breathing and strenghtening. I'm not overly worried about the extra weight I put on, not that I'm going to splurge but honestly I can't help it if all I want to eat is ice cream and cookies.

My next app is next week so we'll see what the Dr says hopefully I didn't got over another pound. I miss my juice so much!

I had gestational diabetes with my second pregnancy and I learned a lot about taking care of myself while pregnant. CMccoy - I have dealt with weight my whole life too, we seem to have similar dimensions. I always eat a little more than I should, so when I'm pregnant I just eat the same. Add to that when I am hungry I eat but I also drink a glass of water. I also would take a little walk or go up and down the stairs a few time (like 5 minutes) after eating to keep my glucose levels steady. All those extra things add up.
I also try to keep in mind what I want to feed my baby. Sometimes thinking of my little one munching away on what I am, makes me think twice.
But - it sounds like your doctor is fine with your weight gain and that says a lot. Feel good and enjoy this new body!
