Birth control and antibiotics...am I in trouble?
Hey All,
I'm new, and was looking for some advice. I have been taking low dose daily birth control, juenel (sp?) for 6 months now. I went to the doctor 2 weeks ago to treat a mild UTI and they put me on bactrum. I felt fine after the first week, but they always say finish the medication, so I'm still taking it. I was never told by my gyno or the urgent care doctor or pharmacist to use a back up method during this time, but I just remembered a friend mentioning a long while back it could affect the effectiveness of my birth control. Obviously NOW I'll be using a back up method, but my fiance and I went back to having sex this past week, and we have a very active sex life. Also, 3 days ago I took a pill much much later than normal. I followed the instructions and was assuming I would be okay, but now with this antibiotic issue...I'm a little worried.
1. Do antibiotics really affect birth control? Does anyone know someone who has gotten pregnant this way? What are my odds?
2. I have one child already, and had no clue until I was 10 weeks along. Ladies with multiple children, were your pregnancy symptoms the same? Were you able to detect or did you "know" you were pregnant earlier because you had already gone through a first pregnancy?
Feeling pretty dumb for not knowing these things...any help would be appreciated.
Happy Vibes,
Jess
