There is always a temptation to dress a baby girl up in a frilly dress or a baby boy up in pants and a shirt but this isn’t very comfortable for the baby.

When packing for the hospital, if you don’t know if it is a boy or girl, use a neutral colored sleeper along with a onesie, a hat, and socks. The hospital will have diapers enough to get you home but you should have newborn diapers at home.

You should consider bringing a pacifier if you will be using one and a good car seat. Have some receiving blankets and a thermal blanket if it is cold outside and perhaps a snowsuit if it is cold outside. Make sure you have newborn sizes unless you are planning to have a ten pound baby. Even a newborn size will seem too big on your baby but it will be comfortable.

Once you have dressed your baby in the onesie, sleeper, socks and hat, swaddle your baby or have the nurse teach you to swaddle your baby for the ride home. Us a snowsuit if necessary and use a thermal blanket to cover the car seat and to trap warm air in the car seat for the ride home. If you know it is a boy or girl, break out something that is color-appropriate and go with a sleeper of that color.

i think an easy sleeper or onesie is still the best bet- you can bundle them in once in the car seat- but ease and comfort are the most important things when it comes to clothing for babies. i love drawstring gowns for nights as well.

I always choose a simple cotton sleeper or gown for baby to wear home. That way he/she is comfy

One thing to remember is that sleeper sacks do not leave their legs free for the car seat. I just made sure to have an outfit that would make it easy to buckle the carseat!

Hmm. The gown I brought DD home in, had a slit in it for the car seat belt, so it covered her legs just fine. If it didn't have that slit, I wouldn't have used it though.

Well that is cool! I've never seen (or at least never noticed) a slit in the gown. Good idea baby clothes makers!
