Everyone keeps telling me not to buy too many baby things ahead of time. But on the other hand we will need some stuff right away. So my question to all the experienced moms is what purchases to wait with and which ones to make before my due date?

Buy your carseat, your stroller, your nursery furniture. Buy some 0 to 3 month clothes (but not too many, she may outgrow them quickly depending on her birth weight). Buy some newborn diapers (see note about newborn clothes). Some baby wash. Some diaper cream. A pack ‘n play or bassinet or co-sleeper if she will be in your room for a while. I liked the bouncy seat and the swing from pretty early on.

The exersaucer and the doorway jumper can wait. The highchair can wait. Don’t buy a huge quantity of bottles if you’re bottle feeding. Your baby might hate the nipples you chose. Similarly, don’t buy all of the nursing regalia in quantity until you know if your baby will cooperate and breastfeed. I still have a huge box of breast pads which were never used because one baby wouldn’t nurse.

Bowls, spoons, sippy cups – can all wait. All of the baby-proofing gear – can wait. (I’m going through the aisle of Babies R Us in my mind. Can you tell?) That’s all I can think of. Anyone else?

the essentials to any new baby- a car seat, an adjustable sling, cloth diapers, a large square swaddle blanket or two, a comfy diaper bag- not too big and easy on the shoulder... and a co sleeper... everything else can really wait!

When I first got pregnant I thought "Oh my god, I need to get so much stuff", but having done a ton of research on baby items I have come up with a good minimal list that works well for me.

- 24 Cloth diapers
- Car seat
- Baby sling
- Co-sleeper (If you want to sleep close by! You can also get a pack-n-play or a bassinet) and 2 spare sheets.
- Waterproof pads for co-sleeper
- Onesies and socks (Luckily I got a ton of hand me down clothing. You should ask around to any friends who have babies, hand me down clothes are great because they grow so fast!)

If you are going to go back to work and you are breastfeeding then you will want a breast pump
