Default Third Trimester Constipation

Yikes! I need help. I am 29 weeks pregnant and have a real problem. Let's just say I am very constipated. I assume that is a side-effect of pregnancy as I usually have no such problem. I assume laxatives are not a good idea in pregnancy. How else can I get back to being more regular?

Go back to the tried and true high-fiber diet – whole grain cereal and breads, fresh fruits and vegetables. Drink LOTS of water. Talk a few long walks. You can even try fiber supplements like Metmucil or Citrucel. Ask your doctor if you can use a stool softener like Colace if you’ve been constipated for very long. It’s not a laxative but will add moisture to your stools, making them easier to pass.
