Default Lower Back Pain at 34 Weeks

I am now 34 weeks pregnant. The other day I wanted to get up out of bed and my lower back hurt so bad that I could barely move. It took me several minutes to get up. I now walk like a hundred year old woman. What is causing this pain and how can I get rid of it?

In all likelihood, your baby is causing the pain. At this point in your pregnancy, your baby is getting so big and so heavy that your uterus is pulling down on your back muscles. It is also bearing down and stretching out your pelvic joints. Another low back issue that many have in their third trimester is sciatica. The uterus puts pressure on the sciatic nerve which causes shooting pains from the low back through the hip and leg.

Warm baths, heating pads and sleeping on your hip with adequate pillow support between your knees and at your back should help you handle the discomfort.

There is no need to worry. Its common. Heating pads can be used for relief. Take care!
