Re:My baby does not seem to be moving as much, should I worry?
During the second and early third trimester, the fetus has a lot of space to move around and it kicks and squirms a lot. After awhile, however, the baby is pretty well stuck in there and it can’t move around the way it could earlier. Instead, the baby shifts position and maybe kicks occasionally. You feel larger movements instead of small, flitting motions. The baby should still move at least three times in a half an hour unless it is asleep. You can wake it up by gently rocking your belly back and forth or by giving the baby sugar through drinking orange juice.
Pay attention to how many movements you feel in half an hour and it should add up to about three. A shift in position counts as a movement. If you really don’t think your baby is moving enough, see your doctor about having a non-stress test. A non-stress test helps you and your doctor know whether or not the baby is happy being in the uterus. It will have a variable heart rate and will show an increase in heart rate with movements. If the test is reactive, you can be assured your baby is happy inside you for at least another week or so.
