Re:I got hit in the belly with a baseball when playing ball with my son!
A lot depends upon your symptoms. Do you have vaginal bleeding that could indicate an abruption? Is the baby moving? Do you have contractions that indicate preterm labor? If you have vaginal bleeding, you should definitely see the doctor as you could have an abruptio placentae that is dangerous to the fetus.
If the baby isn’t moving, you should see the doctor. The baby is relatively protected from such an injury by the amniotic fluid but if it isn’t moving, you should still check things out to make sure the baby is okay. If you develop contractions or a low back ache that can indicate preterm labor, you should have yourself checked out to make sure you haven’t gone into premature labor.
For the most part, the baby will be just fine and will sustain this kind of injury well. Injuries you need to worry about are car accidents, especially if the air bag was deployed, falls down stairs or any fall onto your abdomen. You should still pay attention to the symptoms we talked about but these are more serious injuries that would make it more likely that you should go to the hospital and check things out.
