Default Can exercise wrap the umbilical cord around the baby?

My great-aunt told me that exercising too hard could endanger the baby, because the movement can cause the umbilical cord to wrap around the baby’s neck. Is that true? Does it concern all exercises or are there specific things to avoid?

Exercise does nothing to wrap the cord around the baby’s neck so you can safely do exercises like walking, jogging, swimming and weight training. As long as you stay well hydrated and avoid exercises where you could fall or become injured, you can do almost any physical activity during most of the pregnancy. Once an activity carries the risk of falling and injuring the baby, you should hold off on the activity until after you deliver.
