Default Is it possible to prevent gestational diabetes?

My sister developed gestational diabetes during pregnancy. I just found out that I am pregnant. Are there any foods I can eat now that will help me not to get diabetic?

Default Re:Is it possible to prevent gestational diabetes?

It is impossible to predict who will get gestational diabetes and who will not. You can eat a normal diet and still come down with diabetes. On the other hand, if you gain a lot of weight during the pregnancy and eat a lot of sweets, it could contribute to getting gestational diabetes. Watch your weight gain and stay away from too many sweets and you will have the best chance possible not to come down with gestational diabetes.
