Default Doctor Recommends Continuing Anti-Depressants Despite Risks

I have had some issues with depression for the last four years and am taking an antidepressant. My doctor has recommended that I continue on the medication throughout this pregnancy despite some risks to the baby. I just don't know what is best though. Anyone have experience with this?

I don’t have any experience with this. I’m concerned though about “some risks” to the baby. Did you discuss with the doctor exactly what those risks are? And which doctor made this recommendation – your psychiatrist or your obstetrician, a general practitioner? I think I’d try to get a conference call going between the psychiatrist and the OB so that everyone is on the same page. You need to be honest with yourself and both doctors about your depression symptoms. What are the risks to YOU if you go off the meds? Are there other available anti-depressants that carry lesser risks for the baby but might still be effective for your symptoms?

To me, it sounds like there are still a lot of questions to be answered. Demand answers from your health care providers so that you can make the most informed decision possible.
