Re:Is it safe to have sex even though I am starting to dilate?
Many women have questions about sex during pregnancy. Sex is safe during pregnancy as long as you don’t have a placenta previa (where the placenta covers the cervix) and as long as your bag of waters hasn’t broken. If the bag of waters has broken, the pregnancy is open to the outside and it can be dangerous to insert anything at all into the vagina. If you have started to dilate but don’t have contractions and feel like having sex, it is okay to have sex after some dilatation. Sex, in fact, can stimulate labor and dilate the cervix even more so it is perfectly safe. If your bag of waters, however, breaks during sex, you should stop having sex immediately and not have an ejaculation into the cervical area.
Sometimes, sex is awkward during the last phases of pregnancy and you have to change positions so as to be accommodating to the expanding belly and the baby. You may have to experiment to see which positions work best and are more satisfying to you and your partner. Sex doesn’t have to be dead during pregnancy and many women have an increased libido during pregnancy so there is no reason to stop having sex.
