Re:How many people should I have in the delivery room?
Some hospitals or doctors have limits on how many people they allow in the room but generally, you should have around two extra people in the room. This allows for the spouse or partner and a parent, sister or best friend to be in the room.
Some women get really touchy toward the end and want as many people out of the room as possible. Others couldn’t care less if they set up bleachers for people to watch the delivery and you can’t predict exactly how you will be. Generally, two people are nice. Someone can be at your head, giving you encouragement and support during the pushing phase while the other person helps hold your legs during the pushing phase of delivery. If you have any more people in the room, they are just going to be spectators and won’t be helpful to you during the delivery.
Usually, you can have as many people as you want outside the delivery room waiting for the delivery of the baby so that you can invite them in as a group or in small groups to see the baby and maybe hold the baby after you are cleaned up and in bed again. This allows more than just two people to be involved in the delivery of the baby without completely being in the delivery room.
