Re:What if My Water Breaks While I'm Out in Public?
I’ve given birth to four children but have never spontaneously gone into labor – induced and c-section births for me. But , I do know that not everyone who has their water break spontaneously experiences a “gush”, especially if they are standing up (and baby’s head is engaged in the pelvis, thus blocking a lot of the fluid from escaping). But sometimes, for sure, there is a gush.
I wouldn’t worry about mopping anything up – I’d worry more about getting to the car and getting on the phone to your doctor. But then you’ve got your car interior to worry about. So, here’s my two cents: throw a few old towels (even beach towels would be great) in the back of your car for emergencies. Then, when you start dilating to the point that you think you’re at risk for water breakage, start wearing incontinence pads. Uncomfortable? Yes, maybe. A little embarrassing to buy? Yes. But it will help keep your worst fears from becoming a reality if your water does break in the frozen food aisle.
