Re:Will my baby receive any vaccinations at birth?
Vaccinations and their dosing are changing all the time. Historically, no vaccinations were given at the time of birth and weren’t given until the baby was at least two months old.
Currently, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that a baby get a Hepatitis B shot anytime from birth to two months of age. It is given earlier to babies of high risk mothers along with Hepatitis B globulin to protect the baby from getting hepatitis B.
There is a series of shots recommended at two months of age: Hepatitis B, Rotavirus, Diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis, Haemophilus influenzae, pneumococcus, and an inactivated poliovirus. Many of these shots will be repeated two to four times in childhood and protect the baby from a variety of potentially lethal diseases.
If your hospital gives out Hepatitis B vaccinations at birth, they should give you an immunization record that you can take with you to the doctor’s office at every visit.

Also, you can decline to have the vaccination at the hospital and get it when baby is older, or not get it at all, depending on what state you live in.

ALL states have exemptions from vaccinations, whether it be religious, medical, or philosophical. You can certainly decline it at the hospital and delay it if you wish, also. State Vaccine Requirements ? National Vaccine Information Center Here is a listing of State vaccine requirements for more information.
