Default Will My Childbirth Be Like My Sisters'?

Both my sisters’ have had fairly easy deliveries ranging between two and five hours in duration. One of my sisters even said that having a baby is no more painful than a visit at the dentist. Somewhere I have read that close family members will have similar experiences with childbirth. Does this mean I don’t have to worry too much? I certainly hope this is so.

I’ve never heard that about close family members and similar childbirths. Doesn’t mean it can’t be true! Neither of my sisters have had children yet – so I don’t have much personal experience with this. I can tell you that my mother and I both had three easy, full-term pregnancies ending in uncomplicated labor and deliveries (they all took a bit longer than two to five hours though!). I’ve had three good birth experiences – but I probably wouldn’t compare the pain to a dental visit. I think that each woman and each birth is different. Hopefully, your sisters have given you enough information and advice to help you approach your delivery with a good, calm attitude – that can go far in making your birth experience a good one. I don’t think you should bank on a two to five hour labor – but think positive thoughts and you’ll get through it all just fine!
