Default Is Labor Harder for "Older" Moms?

My cousin told me that childbirth is faster and less painful if you are still quite young. I, however, am already 34. Does that mean I can expect a long and difficult labor?

Is your cousin an obstetrician? If not, it’s probably fairly safe to ignore his or her “wisdom” on a lot of pregnancy matters. Every woman is built differently. Every pregnancy is different and every labor/delivery is different. Some women have horrible pregnancies, others actually like being pregnant (me!). None of this is linked to age. Now, I still think it’s a good idea to take care of yourself and be in relatively good shape when you give birth but as far as the physical work of labor? Age ain’t nothin’ but a number. (The young ‘uns may bounce back a little quicker after the fact – but I don’t see how age has any bearing on labor itself.)
